Introduction

Kalsang Carpet Industries, established at 1993, is a manufacturer of traditional Nepalese and modern Nepalese - Tibetan carpets. We have manufactured the carpets to export to the different continents of the world. More than 200 skilled craftsmen tune their talent to the taste of our customers. Recently, we have started manufacturing hand woven Pashmina (Cashmere) shawls and blankets.

Weaving Technique

Our craft men use the traditional art of unique Nepalese-Tibetan hand-weaving technique, which is indigenous only to this region. Our products are result of hand operating processes. Except the wool carding, which is mostly machine operated, all other aspects of production like wool washing, spinning, weaving trimming and washing of carpets are done by hand. The carpets are woven in Tibetan double knotting system using thick iron rod. The hand-knotted with hand-spun wool is the most unique feature in our carpets.

Wool

The wools are exported from Tibet and the new Zealand. The imported wool are blended in the proportion as required by the clients. The clients has a choice of 100% Tibetan wool, blend of Tibetan/New Zealand wool or 100% New Zealand wool.

Color

We use vegetable dyes as well as Swiss chemicals for coloring the yarn. The major plant that are used for dying are Madder root, Rhubarb, Berbery Walnut, Catechu, Emblica and Myrobalan. These dyes impart the characteristics of the natural look in our carpets.
